28 HOURS, 15 DISCS, 2 ESSENTIAL RALLYING BOX SETS
World Rally Championship 1985-89 and World Rally championship 1990-99 collections released on DVD
NEWS FROM DUKE
Duke, the world leader in motorsport on DVD, is delighted to announce the arrival of two of the most incredible rallying collections ever.We have brought together comprehensive reviews of every single World Rally Championship season from 1985 to 1999. This collection of DVDs is so bursting with fast and furious action we’ve had to split it into two box sets!
The first set features five discs and almost 10 hours of highlights form the second half of the 1980s.
That means you can once again revel in the awesome power of the Group B monsters, including the Audi Quattro, Lancia S4, Peugeot 205 T16 and Metro 6R4, as the cars which would soon be deemed ‘too fast to race’ blast around the special stages of the world. Then there’s the Group A era, which produced some of the most memorable and best-loved WRC cars ever – including the iconic Martini-backed Lancia Delta which would dominate the sport.
The power may have been reduced, but the action certainly wasn’t – as these fantastic reviews show in gripping footage! Experience the down-to-the-wire title battle from 1987, the emergence of the Japanese manufacturers as genuine contenders in 1988 and Lancia’s season-long battle to maintain its dominance in 1989.
All the legendary greats are here, including Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen Markku Alen, Miki Biasion and, of course Henri Toivonen and co-driver Sergio Gresto, whose tragic deaths contributed to the ban on Group B cars.
The second box set boasts complete reviews of every single WRC season of the 1990s, including Colin McRae’s historic title win in 1995.
With action from every round of every year, you don’t miss any of the vital moments. Cameras mounted at the best vantage points, inside many of the cars and on helicopters put you right at the heart of the action, while interviews with all the leading drivers and team bosses give you the inside line on all the major stories of this decade of superb rally action.
The early years see Toyota, with the magnificent Celica GT-4, push the aging Delta out of the limelight, but by the middle of the decade all eyes were on a driver you simply couldn’t miss – McRae.
His undoubted commitment and determination to be the best meant, often, he would win, or crash trying. His smashes became the stuff of legend, earning him the cruel nickname Colin McCrash, and many of the most dramatic are captured in these reviews.
But his skill and style could not be denied and in 1995, just two years after taking his first WRC victory, it was McRae, in the iconic Subaru Impreza, who would become the first British driver to take the World Rally Championship. This collection lets you relive the journey to this momentous year, as well as enjoy the full ’95 season in an absorbing two hour review.
There should have been more titles for McRae, but nobody had predicted how the 1990s would end – with one of the greatest shows of domination ever. Flying Finn Tommi Makinen and Mitsubishi would secure the driver’s title for the next four years in a row.Makinen may have dominated, but that doesn’t make these reviews any less thrilling. McRae was not a man to surrender, and his determined driving in ‘96 and ‘97 must be seen. Then there was Carlos Sainz, who came within yards of breaking Makinen’s grip on the championship in ‘98. The heartbreaking final moments of the season are wonderfully recorded in this collection, including the famous moment of frustration from Sainz’s co-driver Luis Moya which left the Toyota Corolla without a rear window!
Plus, of course, a new British hope emerges in Richard Burns, who is seen in these reviews demonstrating the skills which would later carry him to championship glory.
Whether you’ve never seen this classic rally before or you simply want to replace your dusty old VHS tapes with DVDs, both these box set are essential additions to all motorsport fans’ collections.
