BTCC Snetterton date for Heritage GT pack
The Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge will be
a crowd-pleasing support race during the British Touring Car Championship
meeting at Snetterton (Norfolk) over the weekend (August 12/13).
The HGTCC is one of the leading race series in
Britain for sports, saloon and GT cars from the 1960s and 1970s and a near
capacity grid will contest a pair of races. With the option of having two
drivers per race, one or two cars will have three drivers during the course of
the weekend.

With a mini-endurance race each day at
Snetterton, the fourth weekend of the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge will
produce some great racing from a fabulous grid of touring and GT cars from the
1960s and 1970s.
A gaggle of Aston Martins head the top class,
with the classic 1960s DB5 of Ian McCallum/John Bussell ranged against the
thundering V8s of Bob Searles/Tony Jardine and Chris Scragg. Adding to the
contest will be series newcomers Peter Wheeler (the former TVR boss) and Charlie
Kemp in their glorious DB4s.
However, the mighty Chevrolet Camaro of Arthur
Thurtle/Roger Bennington has already been a race winner this season and the MGB
GTV8 of father and son team Roy and Spencer McCarthy will be a strong contender.
Adding to the mix are the rapid Morgan +8s of Chris Williams, Tony Lees and Phil
Hollins/Peter Horsman, although the race-winning +8 of Oliver Bryant will miss
this round as he's away chasing the British GT Championship.
In the class for 'mildly modified' cars, the
stunning Jaguar E Type of Peter Lloyd will be tough to beat, while the famous
Lotus Elan 26R of Pat Thomas/Mike Youles will be the benchmark for the class for
classic GT cars.
Gaining in popularity race by race is class D for
classic saloon cars of the 1960s and this should be a battle between Nigel
Vaulkhard/John Smirthwaite (Ford Escort) and Gordon Streeter's Ford Anglia,
although the quickest of the Mini Coopers in the hands of Clive Death from St
Ives will be aiming to give the Fords a tough time. Joining Nathalie Boyd in her
Mini Cooper for Snetterton will be former works Cooper driver Warwick Banks, who
will make a welcome debut in the series.
